I stay here. Kuala Lumpur was established in 1857 at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak Rivers. KL is one of Asia's most dynamic cities. I am very proud of it. It began as a mining settlement in the late 1800's with the discovery of tin. One of the essential component of KL is the soul of its people who give the city its distinctive and truly Asia character. The Malays, Chinese, Indians, Indonesians, Thais, Bangladeshis, Myanmars, Vietnamese and Nepalese are normal faces you can see anywhere in KL, all converse in Bahasa Melayu (the national language) with a mix of well spoken English. So, if you come to Kuala Lumpur, there is no language problem.
There are many places of interest in KL. Independence Square is usually the starting point. Here, the tallest flagpole in the world is located, stands atall at 100m. Withing the square is a field fronting Royal Selangor club where Malaysian converge every year to celebrate independence. Opposite is the ornate Sultan Abdul Samad Building, built in 1897 with Moorish features, clock tower and copper domes. This is a well known landmark of Kuala Lumpur and recorded as the most photographed building in Malaysia. National Mosque, Jamek Mosque and Old Railway Station is within walking distance.
Not far from this is the immaculately landscaped KL Lake Garden. Here you can see National Monument, the Parliament House and Asean Sculpture Garden. You can also visit the Butterfly Park, Deer Park, Bird Park, Orchid Garden and Hibiscus Garden, all located within this vicinity.
For handicraft and souvenirs shoppers, don't miss Central Market, China Town and Little India.
The most recent addition to the metropolitant Kuala Lumpur is Petronas Twin Tower, the tallest building in the world until 2007 and the tallest free standing twin tower in the world. In the city centre, KL Tower at 421m is the best location for a 360 degree aerial view of the city from the observation deck. Try this! Or shall I say, you must! You have not been in Kuala Lumpur if you have not climbed KL Tower!
Not far from the city centre, located Batu Caves, a massive limestone outcrop with huge caves. This famous destination draws people from all over the world during the annual Hindu festival of Thaipusam. Climb up the 272 steps to the main temple. Break your leg! My office is somewhere near.
Usually, guests that I manage will add Genting Highlands to complete a 4 days stay in Kuala Lumpur. Genting Highlands is about 1 hour drive from KL City Centre. Genting Highlands is dubbed as the City of Entertainment, offers Asia's biggest indoor and outdoor Theme Park and a casino. The whether is cool and a very suitable place for honeymooners. I remember I told this newly married Arabs friend whom engaged our service during their stay in Malaysia, in Genting Highlands you can expose the kids in you. He misunderstood me! He replied, "No, no, I will not have sex in the open!". And the following month, he introduce a new couple to Kuala Lumpur. He he... Mr. Majid, thank you for your compliment letter. I really appreciate that.
